Tutorial: Blue Shades Rainbow with Epoxy Resin
This is a step by step tutorial to make your own blue rainbow resin charm.
The supplies needed for this project are:
- epoxy resin
- 3.5" Rainbow Silicone Mold
- iridescent white glitter
- silver glitter
- iridescent white cellophane flakes
- 4 mixing cups and sticks
- alcohol inks: white and any 3 shades of blue - I used Sky, Navy and Blue
- 3 shades of blue glitter
First we will be creating the rainbow bezel. When that is ready, we will be filling the rainbow cavities with 3 shades of blue.
Step 1: Prepare a batch of clear resin
Step 2: To the clear resin add iridescent white glitter, silver glitter and iridescent white cellophane flakes. Mix well.
Step 3: Pour the glittery resin mix into the rainbow silicone mold.
Step 4: Wait for the resin to cure.
Step 5: Once the resin has cured, de-mold the rainbow from the silicone mold.
Now that we have created our glittery rainbow bezel, the next step is to fill the middle cavities using 3 different shades of blue.
Step 6: Prepare another batch of clear resin and divide it into 3 mixing cups.
Step 7: To the first mixing cup add Navy alcohol ink (or the darkest shade of blue pigment that you have) along with White alcohol ink and some of the darkest blue glitter.
Step 8: To the second mixing cup add Blue alcohol ink (or the second darkest shade of your blue pigment), along with White alcohol ink and the second darkest shade of glitter.
Step 9: To the third mixing cup add Sky alcohol ink (or the lightest shade of blue pigment that you chose), White alcohol ink, and the lightest shade of blue glitter.
Step 10: Mix each cup well and make sure that the pigment has been thoroughly and evenly distributed.
Step 11: Pour each resin mix into one of the rainbow cavities, adding the darkest shade of blue to the outer cavity moving to the lightest shade added to the inner cavity.
Add the resin slowly to avoid over-pouring. You can also use your mixing stick to add the resin bit by bit as needed.
Step 12: Wait for the resin to cure.
Once the resin has finished curing, your rainbow resin charm is complete. An optional additional step is to dome the rainbow using clear resin if you want an even shiny finish. I opted to skip doming the front because I love the matte and shiny contrast result.
I hope that you enjoy making your blue rainbow as much as I did. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comment section down below.
