Easy resin project for beginners

Resin crafting may seem daunting to newbies, but there is nothing to worry about. It's easy once you get the hang of it and very rewarding once your beautiful resin pieces are finished. Here is a simple project idea that you can make to continue learning on your resin journey.

In this blog, I will be going through the steps for creating this resin charm but a video tutorial is also available:

Supplies needed

For this project you will need the following supplies:

  • mixing cups & sticks
  • epoxy resin
  • 2" Double Shaker Square Silicone Mold
  • iridescent white fine glitter
  • iridescent white cellophane flakes
  • pearl resin pigment: mint green, blue, white, violet
  • lilac mica powder
  • sticker/s, pearl hearts and other embellishments (use whatever you have at hand)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare some resin.

Step 2: To the resin add iridescent white fine glitter and iridescent white cellophane flakes. Mix well.

Step 3: Pour the glittery resin mix into the silicone mold.

Step 4: Wait for the resin to cure

Step 5: Once the resin has cured, demold the resin from the silicone mold.

Step 6: Prepare some more resin and divide it into 2 mixing cups.

Step 7: To the first mixing cup add mint green pigment, blue pigment and white pigment.

Step 8: To the second mixing cup add lilac mica powder, violet resin pigment and white pigment.

Step 9: Mix each resin mixture well. Make sure that the pigments have been thoroughly mixed into your resin and that they're evenly distributed throughout.

Note: If the pigments are not mixed well into the resin, it may cause issues. For more information about this read this blog post.

Step 10: Pour the mint green resin mixture into the outer section of the square.

Step 11: Pour the lilac resin mixture into the the middle section of the square.

Step 12: Wait for the resin to cure.

Step 13: Time to add the stickers if you are using any. Once the resin has cured, place and stick your stickers onto the resin charm.

Step 14: Prepare some resin.

Step 15: Pour the clear resin onto the charm to form a thin layer covering the face of the charm. Do so bit by bit and use your mixing stick to add small amounts of resin at a time. Then start adding your embellishments.

Step 16: Wait for the resin to cure.

Once the resin has finished curing, the resin charm is complete. This mold makes nice sized pieces which can be used for various purposes - you can turn your charm into a pendant, a key chain, a magnet or even use it as a desk decoration since the charm can stand on it's own.
