HOW TO: DIY Hand-painted Midnight Resin Charm

For this project you will need the following items:

• 2" Circle Silicone Mold
• Epoxy resin
• Black acrylic paint (I use DecoArt Crafter's Acrylic Paint)
• Yellow acrylic paint (I use DecoArt Crafter's Acrylic Paint)
• Black bat confetti x1
• Blue resin pigment*
• Silicone nail art brushes (or any other brush you have to hand-paint the scene)

First step is to pour a thin layer of clear resin into the silicone mold. Then let it fully cure. You will need it to be smooth to the touch and not sticky for the next step. 

When the first layer is fully cured, it is time to hand paint on the scene. I am using acrylic paints for this.

Once the paint has completely dried, pour another thin layer of clear resin.

Smooth out the clear layer of resin to cover the whole surface.

Then embed the bat confetti. Push the bat down to fully submerge it under the second layer of resin. To avoid having the bat moving around or from floating, cover it completely with resin.

Wait for the second layer to fully cure, or until it is in solid jelly form, and then pour in the blue pigmented resin layer.

When the resin is cured, remove the resin charm from the silicone mold. 

Pour a clear layer of resin on your resin charm to dome it and make it super shiny.

When the doming layer has fully cured, your Midnight resin charm is complete. You can turn it into anything you like at this point. I made mine into a magnet.  

Tip: This resin charm is made from 3 layers. Try not to handle the mold as much as possible. With silicone molds you risk detaching the resin from the mold when handling, and the second/third layer may seep up to the front and ruin the resin charm (or create additional work to salvage it).
