Resin Tutorial: Cosmos Charm 🌌
Â
Â
In this week's tutorial we'll be making a Cosmos circle charm using epoxy resin. The process to make this charm is divided into a 3 layer pour - a glittery clear resin mix for the first layer, clear resin for the second layer (in which the gold embellishments are embedded), and finally a purple and black resin mixture for the third and final layer.Â
I used an old version of the mold so I had to take an extra step of doming the resin piece before it was complete. The mold that I am currently selling in my stores does produce shiny pieces right away though, so if you're using the latest version of the mold it eliminates the extra doming step to make the piece nice and shiny. The doming step has been included for completeness sake - please ignore this if you are using a shiny mold 😊

Supplies needed
For this project you will need the following supplies:
- epoxy resin
- 2 inch Circle Silicone Mold
- iridescent white glitter powder
- black pearl resin pigment
- purple pearl resin pigmentÂ
- holographic purple chunky glitter
- holographic silver chunky glitter
- holographic charcoal grey cellophane flakes
- tiny gold moons, stars and suns
- mixing cups and sticks
- pointed silicone tool or a toothpick
Â
Instructions
Step 1: Mix a small amount of resin.
Step 2: Add iridescent white glitter to the resin. Mix well.
Step 3: Pour a thin layer of the glittery resin mix into the silicone mold.Â
Step 4: Wait for the resin to cure.
Â
Â
Step 5: Mix another small amount of resin and pour a thin layer into the silicone mold.
Â
Â
Step 6: Into this second layer embed the gold stars, moons and suns.
Tip: Sprinkle/place the embellishments over the resin and then use a pointed silicone tool to place them around.
Step 7: Wait for the resin to cure.
Â
Â
Step 8: Prepare some resin and divide it into 2 mixing cups.
Step 9: To one mixing cup add black pigment, holographic silver chunky glitter and holographic grey cellophane flakes. Mix well.
Step 10: To the other mixing cup add purple resin pigment and holographic purple chunky glitter. Mix well.
Â
Â
Â
Â
Step 11: Start by pouring some of the black resin mix into the mold, and then fill up the rest of the mold using the purple resin mixture.
Â
Â
Â
Â
Step 12: Wait for the resin to cure.
Step 13: De-mold the resin piece from the mold.
Â
Â
Since I was using an older version of the mold, my piece was not shiny. So I then proceeded to dome the piece using a clear layer of resin. If your mold has a shiny inside, your Cosmos charm is complete at this stage. On the other hand, if your mold has a matte inside and you want your piece to be nice and sparkly, proceed to the next steps.
Â
Â
Step 14: Prepare some resin.
Step 15: Pour or place small amounts of resin onto your resin piece. Move the resin towards the edges using your mixing stick. Make sure to add small amounts of resin at a time to avoid an over-spill.
Step 16: Wait for the doming layer of resin to cure.
Â
Â
Your Cosmos charm is now complete. If you need a demo for any of the steps you can watch the video linked at the end of this tutorial. Feel free to leave a comment down below or on the video if you have any questions.Â
