Instructions
Step 1: Gather and prepare your craft supplies.
Step 2: Measure and mix you resin as per instructions provided with your resin.
Step 3: Pour a thin even layer into each cavity of your dominoes set silicone mold.
Note: Do not fill more than half way.
Step 4: To the bottom end of each domino, add a small amount of crushed shell chips.
Step 5: Use a wooden stir stick to push the crushed shells down.
Step 6: Place the gold embellishments onto the uncured resin.
Step 7: Repeat step 6 to fill all domino pieces.
Step 8: Use a wooden stir stick to push the gold embellishments and embed them into the clear resin layer.
Step 9: Wait for the first layer of resin to cure.
Note: The wait time will vary depending on your resin and current ambient temperature. Cure time may vary from one resin to another - refer to instructions provided with your resin. In my case, I was able to do a second pour within a few hours, bearing in mind that at the time that I was making these we already had summer temperatures where I live.
Step 10: When your first layer of resin has cured, prepare another batch of clear resin.
Step 11: Divide the clear resin into 3 mixing cups.
Step 12: To one cup add violet alcohol ink, glitter purple resin pigment and white alcohol ink in a 1:5:5 ratio.
Step 13: To another cup add blue alcohol ink, glitter cornflower blue resin pigment and white alcohol ink in a 1:5:5 ratio.
Step 14: To the final remaining cup add teal alcohol ink, glitter menthol resin pigment and white alcohol ink in a 1:5:5 ratio.
Step 15: Mix each cup well making sure that the pigments are thoroughly and evenly distributed into your resin.
Step 16: It's time to pour the colored resin mixtures as the final layer of your dominoes. Start by pouring small amounts of the purple resin mixture at the bottom end of the dominoes. Then add small amounts of the green resin mixture in the middle section, and the blue resin mixture at the top part of the dominoes.
Top up as needed and repeat this process until you fill all of your dominoes cavities of the mold.
Step 17: Wait for the resin to fully cure.
Step 18: When the resin has fully cured, remove the dominoes from the silicone mold.
Step 19: Using a paintbrush or a dotting tool, paint on the details with white acrylic paint.
Step 20: Repeat step 19 for all dominoes.
Step 21: Wait for the paint to fully dry.
Step 22: Once the paint has dried completely, if necessary, clean off any excess paint using a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.
After following these step-by-step instructions in this tutorial, you should now have a beautiful set of custom dominoes that are ready to be used and displayed. The process of creating resin dominoes is a fun and creative way to personalize your game night experience.
