HOW TO: DIY Hand Painted Cobweb Resin Coaster

For this project you will need the following items:

  • 4 inch Circle Silicone Mold
  • Epoxy Resin
  • Spider Confetti
  • White Acrylic Paint (I use DecoArt Crafter's Acrylic Paint)
  • Red resin pigment*
  • Silicone nail art brushes (or any other brush you have to hand-paint the scene)

Start by pouring a thin layer of epoxy resin into your silicone mold.

Pour a thin layer of clear epoxy resin into your silicone mold

Wait for the first resin layer to cure, and then pour another thin layer of clear epoxy resin.

Pour a second layer of clear epoxy resin into your mold

Right away add your spider confetti and ensure that they are completely submerged and covered with the resin. By pouring a very thin layer at this stage, you will be able to add the spider confetti straightaway. On the other hand, if the second layer is too thick, you may want to wait a bit before adding the confetti to avoid them floating during the curing process.

Add spider confetti and fully submerge into resin

Once the second layer of resin has fully cured (you want the resin to be smooth and not sticky for the next part), start hand painting  the cobweb with white acrylic paint. Begin doing so by painting a cross and then another cross intersecting it. If you are unsure on how to tackle this part, watch the video tutorial linked at the end of this blog post.

Wait for the paint to completely dry before proceeding to the next step.

For the final layer of resin, add Red resin pigment to your epoxy resin and pour into your mold.

When the resin is cured, demold your resin piece out of the silicone mold.

The next step is optional. You can skip it if you want a matt finish. But if you want a super shiny finish for your coaster, dome it with clear epoxy resin.

Once fully cured, your Hand Painted Cobweb Resin Coaster is complete.
